01 · THE LID CUTS THE MOTOR

But the drum keeps turning on its own momentum

It is worth being clear about what it does and what it does not. The switch cuts the motor's supply; it does not brake the drum. A basket loaded with frames keeps turning for a good while after the motor stops driving it. Lifting the lid and putting your hand in are two different things, and between them you wait for it to stop completely.

That is why it is a maintenance part and not an accessory: when the sensor loses its touch, the extractor either fails to start — the easy fault — or starts believing the lid is shut when it is not.

02 · THE TERMINAL PEOPLE GET WRONG

Three terminals and only two are used

This type of microswitch has common, normally closed and normally open. For a lid, the motor must only be able to run with the plunger pressed, that is with the lid shut: you wire the normally open contact together with the common.

That is the classic replacement mistake. Wired to the other terminal, the extractor runs perfectly… with the lid up, and stops when you close it. Before refitting the lid, check it with the machine unplugged, pressing the plunger with a finger.

03 · HONEY IS WHAT KILLS IT

Not the current, nor contact wear

These switches rarely fail at the electrical contact. They fail because honey and wax get in around the plunger, dry, and the stem stops returning to its seat. That is where the lid fault begins, and it is the reason to change it before the season rather than in the middle of extraction.

It is replaced with screw terminals and standard screw fixing, which are not included. And since Z-15GD-B is a series designation rather than a part exclusive to one brand, the reliable check is not the extractor model: it is reading the reference marked on the switch you are removing.
