In three sizes: Layens, Dadant and Langstroth. The paraffin is what waterproofs the wood so it stands up to syrup season after season.
01 · THE SIZES
It takes a frame's place and hangs like one
The published sizes are Layens, 390 × 325 mm and 2.8 litres, and Langstroth, 230 × 440 mm and 2.2 litres; a Dadant version also exists. Check yours before ordering: the feeder takes a frame's place and has to hang like one, lugs resting properly and nothing forced.
02 · HOW TO FILL AND FIT IT
Funnel outside, and mesh inside
Fill it with a funnel — that is what stops spills, and syrup outside the reservoir means robbing. Then take a frame out of the brood box to make room and slide the filled feeder in. The manufacturer expressly recommends putting a piece of mesh inside against drowning: without it, the surface is wide open.
