01 · HOW IT WORKS

The reservoir outside, access through the base

ANEL® entrance feeder with a nominal capacity of 1.8 kg for feeding liquid syrup without lifting the hive roof. The reservoir remains outside while the bees enter from the hive entrance through the base. It is an economical, highly visible way to monitor consumption, particularly in mild weather and when rapid refilling is useful.

Because it is fitted at the entrance, you can check the level and refill without removing the roof or crownboard. This reduces disturbance, but you must still watch consumption and colony condition. Add only an amount the colony can use and remove any syrup that has deteriorated.

02 · WHICH HIVE IT FITS

Langstroth and Dadant, not Layens

The manufacturer's specification identifies this model for Langstroth and Dadant, with dimensions of 23 × 16 × 19 cm. It is not intended for Layens hives. The base is wide: do not try to force the whole unit through a narrow entrance. It should stand securely outside with the access aligned, without rocking or obstructing bee traffic.

03 · THE COLD LIMIT

Outside, the syrup cools sooner

As the feeder is outside, its syrup cools sooner than in an internal feeder. In cold weather, or when the cluster is far from the entrance, the bees may not reach it. Use it when temperature and colony population are sufficient; for winter maintenance, feed that is accessible from the warm area of the colony is generally more suitable.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Fill and handle it without spilling feed in front of neighbouring hives. Keep the reservoir, base and access passages clean: exposed sweet residue encourages robbing, while diluted syrup can ferment. Use outside the commercial honey crop, or manage it so that feed cannot be stored in the harvested batch.
