30 L A WHOLE SACK | 22 kg OF POWDERED FEED |
1 POINT FOR SEVERAL HIVES | 0 MIXING |
Apiary feeder for dry pollen substitutes: it takes a whole sack, about 30 litres or 22 kg, and serves several hives at once.
For Apipollen, MegaBee or Ultra Bee Dry and any other powder formulated to be taken as it comes, with no patties or syrups to prepare.
01 · WHEN IT COMES OUT
When you get to the apiary and the bloom is short of pollen, it shows at once: less traffic at the entrance, less brood, and the hive loses momentum exactly when it should be taking off. A powder feeder at the stand saves you the mixing and keeps the foragers busy where it matters — at the apiary rather than searching further afield.
02 · WHAT IT IS LIKE
The body is made to stay outside all season: rain and wind resistant, with a twist-lock lid for clean filling and a removable bottom plate for emptying and cleaning. It comes apart in minutes, so out of season it stores away without taking room. And because it takes the whole sack, one load covers several days without another trip to the store.
03 · THE TWO LIMITS
Two things worth being clear about. Uptake varies between hives: not all consume the same, and the weak ones — the ones that need it most — usually load less than the strong. And as a common feeding point, there is a disease transmission risk if bees from different apiaries mix within range. It is an excellent complement in a pollen shortage, but it does not replace the protein patty when the deficit is severe or when you need a particular hive to get its ration.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
Set it at the stand, open the sack and pour it in: there is no other preparation. Concentrating the foragers on a shared resource lowers conflict at the entrance, and being dry feed the small hive beetle tends to ignore it, which is not the case with patties. Remove supers destined for human consumption before feeding, and the usual rule: do not feed during the flow if you intend to harvest that honey for sale.
| ✓ FITS | Apiaries short of pollen with flying weather, when you want to feed without mixing. |
| ⚠ IT IS A COMMON POINT | Uneven uptake between hives and a health risk if bees from other apiaries mix. |
