One-piece food-grade plastic super frame with the cell pattern already moulded in.
Assembling wooden frames and embedding foundation is half an afternoon before the colony sees anything. This one comes in a single piece with the 5.4 mm cell already moulded: nothing to assemble, no wire to tension — just wax it and put it in.
01 · BUILD
One piece, food-grade plastic, made in Greece
A complete frame in food-grade plastic, 268 g, with no parts to put together and no wire to tension. The top bar is 25 mm and the Hoffman width 37 mm, so it self-spaces in the super just like a wooden one. It takes high extractor speeds without distorting, even with dense honeys such as fir.
02 · ASSEMBLY
Waxing it before first use is not optional
Before you put it to work, give it a coat of melted wax at 60-70 °C with a roller or brush. That smell of wax is what gets the bees to take to it; put in dry, acceptance is far slower.
03 · CLEANING
It washes down with caustic potash
It is disinfected with a 5 % caustic potash solution at 80 °C. Being plastic it takes that wash without breaking down — something a wired wooden frame does not handle nearly as well. As for wax moth, it does not eat the plastic: the larvae are after the protein in brood cocoons and pollen, not clean wax. But once the frame carries drawn, used comb it is as attractive as a wooden one — and the larvae can tunnel into the plastic itself to pupate. Store it with the same care as any frame with comb on it.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
Measure your super: there are three heights
This is the expensive mistake with this product. Supers on the market come in 15, 16 and 17 cm, and these frames are 16 cm. The 48 cm top bar length is indeed common to Langstroth and Dadant US, but the height is not: check yours before ordering.

No. This frame is 48 × 16 cm, the super size for Dadant US and Langstroth; the Blatt has a 47 cm top bar, and with one centimetre too many it will not sit in the rebate. For Dadant Blatt the catalogue has the 47 × 16 cm Hoffmann plastic super frame and the NICOT one. Measure the top bar of one of your frames before choosing: 48 is US, 47 is Blatt.
