Details of Candle mould - Love Candle

Silicone mould for a LOVE candle 10.5 cm tall and 5 cm across. Each piece takes around 188 grams of wax.

A kilo makes five candles, and that is no longer a small gift candle. It is a counter piece, and it has to be priced as one.

01 · WHAT A KILO GIVES

Around 188 grams a candle

The supplier puts the load at 188 g and the geometry allows it: the enclosing cylinder comes to 198 g of ceiling, and a solid piece with raised lettering sits close to it. That is five candles per kilo.

Weigh the first one: that is the figure to price from.

02 · RELIEF WANTS HEAT

70-75 °C, and a second top-up

The lettering is what sells this candle. Wax melts between 62 and 65 °C: pouring right there means it sets before filling the bottom of the relief and the letters come out blunt. It pays to go to 70-75 °C.

And since it contracts as it cools, keep hot wax back to top up once the surface has set and the inside is still warm: on a 188 g piece the dip shows far more. The mould has a slit: before pouring, close it with rubber bands so the wax does not escape through the join.

03 · THE WICK

3×13 as a starting point

The supplier recommends 3×13 for these 5 cm. It is worth testing: beeswax melts higher than paraffin and wants more wick at the same diameter; too small and the flame digs a well.

After a few weeks a white film appears: that is not mould, it is wax bloom. It buffs off with a cloth.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Each candle takes nearly a fifth of a kilo of wax: worth knowing how much of your own you have before planning a run.

✓ RIGHT FITA large gift piece, for Valentine's or for a hamper.
✕ WRONG FITIf wax is scarce: five candles eat a kilo.
⚠ NOT INCLUDEDNeither the wax, the wick nor the rubber bands.
