Gear pump of 0.55 kW to transfer honey at up to 1,650 litres an hour, and to cream it by recirculation.
Gears push the honey; they do not beat it. A gear pump moves the product by displacement: the volume comes in between the teeth and leaves on the other side. There is no impeller spinning inside the liquid, and that is why it is the system fitted to professional filling machines.
01 · GEARS PUSH, THEY DO NOT BEAT
The flow comes out steady, without pulsing, which is exactly what you want for filling or for moving from one settling tank to another. Not beating the liquid, it does not take in the air you would later have to skim off as foam.
The price of that smoothness is force: it is not a helical pump. With very dense honey, hard crystals or bits of capping, the helical pump is another league. For fluid or partly crystallised honey, this one does the job cleanly.
02 · IT HAS TO BE PRIMED
The gear system does not create a vacuum by itself: with an empty circuit, the pump turns and nothing comes up. Before starting, the suction line and the body have to be full of honey.
Nor does it reverse, so you cannot purge backwards or send product back down the suction. It is a design limitation, not a fault, but it shapes how you build the circuit: you have to be able to fill it and empty it by gravity.
03 · CREAMING BY RECIRCULATION
Running the honey through the gear module several times a day for two or three days, the friction breaks the large crystals down and leaves fine crystal. It is the usual method in Poland and Germany, and it asks for neither a paddle nor prior seeding.
One important nuance: the 25-30 °C recommended are so the honey passes easily through the gears, not so that it crystallises. Crystal grows in the cold — around 14 °C is where it grows fastest — so the final texture is made afterwards, in the tank, not inside the pump.
04 · 1,650 L/H WITH FLUID HONEY
The figure is for fluid honey. With cold or thick honey the real flow drops, and that is where a well-planned circuit shows: short hose, little height and a full suction line.
It runs on 230 V and 0.55 kW, an ordinary workshop socket, and it has a carrying handle: you take it to the tank instead of taking the tank to the pump.
