LYSON Multi-frame Polystyrene Dadant US Beehive

On hot summer days, when you open the hive and feel a wave of warm air escaping, you know your bees are spending valuable energy just to keep the colony ventilated. In winter it’s the opposite: every drop of honey becomes vital fuel to keep brood warm. A good hive makes the difference—less effort wasted on climate control, more resources invested in brood and honey.

The Multi-frame Dadant US 10-frame hive by LYSON is built to meet that challenge. Made from high-density expanded polystyrene (EPS), it provides up to six times better insulation than wood. Plastic reinforcements in critical points add durability, protecting against wear from frames and hive tools.

The low ventilated plastic bottom board with removable tray ensures constant airflow, reduces moisture and allows monitoring of natural varroa drop without disturbing the bees. Unlike wood, it won’t rot and can be cleaned with a pressure washer.

The high roof acts as an insulating chamber, minimizing condensation in winter and protecting against summer overheating. Integrated into it, the 7.5 L food-grade plastic feeder uses corner compartments that warm quickly, keeping syrup available even on colder days.

The kit includes:

Delivered unpainted in white, it’s ready to be coated with water-based acrylic paint to improve UV resistance. Thanks to EPS, it is up to 60% lighter than wood, making honey supers much easier to handle.

Certified for food contact under EU regulations, it guarantees honey purity. In practice, it pays for itself within a few seasons with fewer winter losses and reduced supplemental feeding costs.

Important note: This hive follows the Dadant US standard (48 cm top bar), used mainly in Spain, Germany and other countries. It is not compatible with Dadant Blatt (47 cm top bar), common in France and Italy. The 1 cm difference makes both systems non-interchangeable.
