01 · WHY POWDER

Stimulation fails on logistics, not on product

On an outfit of 200 or 300 hives, stimulative feeding does not fail on the product: it fails on logistics. Heavy drums, space in the shed, and use-by dates closing in. Powder changes that arithmetic: it stores dry, takes less room than the liquid equivalent and you are not paying to freight water or for packaging. And you make the syrup when you need it, so it always goes into the hive fresh.

02 · HOW TO MAKE IT UP

A thermometer, two temperatures and stirring

Heat the water to 60-70 °C, add the powder and dissolve it well. Hold that temperature, stirring every five minutes: half an hour gives a partly inverted syrup and up to two hours a full inversion. Finish by taking it to 90-100 °C for one minute while stirring, then leave it to cool undisturbed. With a thermometer and regular stirring, the syrup comes out the same every time.

The dry powder generates no HMF on its own: the risk appears if you overshoot temperature or time while mixing. Stick to the process and the question never arises.

03 · HOW TO USE IT AT THE APIARY

Simulate a flow, not fill the larder

Stimulating is not feeding for the sake of it: it is simulating a nectar flow so the queen starts laying. The pattern many outfits work to is 1.5 kg of syrup per hive per week for 3-4 weeks, starting 4-6 weeks before the target bloom. The feed goes in the warm zone, close to the brood, so it is taken quickly. And if pollen is short in the field, pair it with a protein patty: carbohydrate pushes, but it does not build population.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Once reconstituted, the syrup behaves like any fresh syrup: use it within the following days, do not store it for weeks. Make up the amount you will hand out on that round of the apiary and no more. The closed sack, on the other hand, keeps dry and cool without trouble. And the usual rule: do not feed during the flow if you intend to harvest that honey for sale.
