38 % FRUCTOSE | 2 kg PER BAG, READY TO PLACE |
6 × 2 kg BAGS · 12 kg BOX | READY TO USE, NO MIXING |
The fullest in the IdealApi range: on top of the sugars it adds B-group vitamins, minerals and amino acids. A 12 kg box holding six 2 kg bags.
The question these pages keep being asked is always the same: do I pour it as it is, or mix it with water and sugar? As it is. And there is only one thing you dilute it for.
01 · HOW TO USE IT
Here the format is the argument: the 2 kg bag sits open on top of the frames, in the part of the hive the bees keep warm, with nothing decanted into a feeder and no pool for them to drown in. One bag per colony, and the empty comes straight back out.
| Stores · autumn | One bag per colony, replaced as it empties. This is the feed a colony goes into winter on |
|---|---|
| Stimulation · spring | Same placement, as brood gets going. If you want a thin syrup, make it up in a separate feeder: the point of the bag is not decanting |
The box holds six 2 kg bags, twelve kilos in all: six colonies in one go, or one colony refilled six times.
02 · THE COMPOSITION
The maker declares 38 % fructose, 32 % glucose and 7 % sucrose, with the vitamins, minerals and amino acids on top. It arrives inverted, that is, with the sucrose already split into the simple sugars a bee takes up without any prior work — the figure worth reading on any syrup's data sheet.
03 · WHAT SITS ON THE SUGAR
This is what separates this line from the other two. It adds B-group vitamins, minerals and three amino acids — tryptophan, methionine and lysine — along with polyphenols and tannins from plant extracts. And here we have to be explicit, because the maker's own literature goes further than a feed is allowed to go: this is a complementary feed, not a veterinary medicine. It neither prevents nor treats any disease of the colony, it does not stand in for hive health work, and no such role is claimed for it here. What it brings is energy and a load of micronutrients; pollen and hive health are their own jobs.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
All three come in several formats, and what separates them is what sits on top of the sugar:
| Classic 13 kg | Sugars only, the thickest of the three (21-23 % moisture), with zinc and copper. The budget one |
|---|---|
| Optimal 13 kg | Balanced sugars (pH 4.5) plus an extract of seven plants |
| Complete ApiTotal 2 kg bags (this one) | The fullest: adds B-group vitamins, minerals and amino acids |
| ✓ FITS | The richest feed in the range, for a spring start or for going into winter. |
| ✕ DOESN'T FIT | Standing in for a health treatment. Or covering a pollen shortage: this is energy, not protein. |
| ⚠ NOT INCLUDED | The feeder: the syrup is poured, and the container in the hive is bought separately. |
