01 · WHAT FOR

Show the spinning, don't describe it

With the transparent drum you can see why you start slowly with new comb, how the face against the wall empties first and what stays in the comb if you stop the cycle early. On an open day it is the moment people suddenly understand what harvesting honey is, and for a beginner one load teaches what a manual cannot in ten pages. It serves the beekeeper too: an unbalanced or badly seated frame can be seen wobbling without lifting the lid.

02 · EXTRACTION

Two frames, two faces, two speeds

It is tangential and not reversible: each frame rests one face against the stainless cage with 35 × 20 mm mesh, so you spin one face, turn the frame and spin the other. The maker asks for two passes: both faces slowly first, then both faces faster, so the weight of the honey on the inner face does not tear the comb off the foundation. Frames are turned only once the cage has come to a complete stop, and the crank doubles as the brake. Keep the gate open with the bucket underneath while spinning: honey pooling at the bottom slows the cage and can jam it.

03 · BUILD

Not the BASIC with another drum: three things change

It shares the Ø 400 mm diameter, the cage and the frames accepted with the stainless 2-frame BASIC extractor, and moves up a grade in what you handle every season:

Rim, legs and top beam are powder-coated, the lid is transparent and the crank with brake mounts on the beam. The drum is 500 mm high and takes Dadant and Langstroth brood frames; their supers fit the cage as well.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Acrylic asks for different care from steel: wash it with warm water and soap, never with alcohol or cleaners containing it, which craze it, and no scouring pad. Before the first harvest wash the whole extractor with hot water and food-safe detergent, without flooding the shaft bearings, and store it dry and above 0 °C. If what you want is to produce without an audience, the stainless BASIC does the same job for less.
