Mechanical uncapping with steam-heated discs: faster than a knife, less wax torn off, and frames ready to spin in seconds.
Uncapping with a knife works, but when you've got 40 or 50 supers waiting and the clock is ticking, every frame you scrape by hand is time you don't get back. This uncapping machine from SAF NATURA uses stainless steel disc rollers heated by steam: you feed the frame between the rollers and the discs perforate the cappings transversally, without tearing off wax the way a knife does. The result is fast, even uncapping that preserves more of the comb structure (less wax torn off, faster rebuilding for the bees) and leaves frames ready for the extractor in seconds. It mounts directly onto your uncapping tray, takes up minimal space and is compatible with Langstroth, Langstroth AM, Dadant, Dadant US and Zander frames.
Unlike a knife (which slices and tears off a sheet of wax) or a spiked roller (which only punctures), the stainless steel discs on this machine score the cappings transversally in a continuous mechanical action. Honey is released through the perforations during extraction without the need to remove large pieces of wax. The comb stays more intact and the bees rebuild it faster — a detail that matters in production when every day of comb repair counts. The honey may carry slightly more micro-wax in suspension than with a clean knife cut, but a standard 200–400 micron filter handles it easily.
The unit includes a separate steam generator (housed in a bucket with lid) that heats the discs to optimal working temperature. This is critical when you're uncapping early in the morning with wax still cold and brittle, or when dealing with honeys that produce particularly thick cappings like heather or eucalyptus. Hot discs penetrate the cappings with less resistance, the workflow is smoother and you reduce the risk of cracking drawn comb.
The entire frame is built from stainless steel, ensuring easy cleaning and resistance to the organic acids in propolis and honey. The machine is designed to mount directly onto an uncapping tray, slotting into your existing workflow without requiring a separate table. At 564 × 388 × 174 mm, it takes up no more room than a Dadant frame laid flat.
Accepts Langstroth, Langstroth AM, Dadant, Dadant US and Zander frames. If you run mixed equipment or source frames from different suppliers, there's no need to swap parts between batches. Feed the frame in, the rollers do the work, and you move to the next.
