Details of ADVANCE Multipurpose Beekeeper Knife

It is not an uncapping knife: it is the short blade you carry for the four odd jobs of the day. To uncap a whole frame, the tool is another one.

Multi-purpose apiary knife for cutting comb, tidying up uncapping, prising frames apart and opening feed bags. About 100 g.

01 · THE FOUR REAL JOBS

What you take it out of your pocket for

The uses are specific: cutting comb, finishing off uncapping where cappings are left, prising apart frames stuck with propolis and opening feed bags without wrestling them.

That is a field knife, not a bench knife. A whole frame gets uncapped with a long blade that covers its height in one pass; this is the one that deals with what the long blade left, or what turns up once you have packed away.

02 · ACID HONEY, DRY BLADE

Maintenance and care

It works with honey and wax, and honey is acidic: when you finish, rinse it and dry it — do not put it away damp in the toolbox.

And the obvious that is worth saying anyway: in the apiary it is handled with gloves and sticky hands. You cut away from yourself and you put it away closed — a loose knife at the bottom of a box always finds a finger.
