01 · THE MEASUREMENT DECIDES
Boxes and roofs vary by maker
The body measures approximately 325 × 385 × 55 mm. It is designed for Langstroth and Dadant, but these hive bodies, crownboards and roofs vary by manufacturer. Check the usable area and available height, position it level and ensure that the central access point connects to the interior without leaving any gaps to the outside.
02 · BEFORE YOU BUY
Adjust the feed rate to suit the colony’s strength, the temperature and the rate of consumption. Do not provide syrup during a commercial honey flow or in supers intended for harvesting. Remove any leftovers before they ferment, wash the feeder between uses and monitor condensation: a small colony may take too long to consume a large volume.
