Steam wax melter, universal model with capacity for all types of 12 Layens frames, 13 Dadant or 22 Langstroth. It has a double compartment, one where the water is deposited, which is heated by means of a gas oven, and the steam generated melts the wax of the frames found in the upper compartment.
There comes a time in the season, usually when the cold gives us a break in the workshop or just before preparing supers for the honey flow, when you look at that pile of old, black frames and know they cannot go back into the hive. Those dark combs, heavy with old cocoons, are a luxury hotel for pathogen spores and accumulated residues. For that dirty but vital job, this Universal Steam Wax Melter is, honestly, the best ally you can have in the honey house.
Why does this melter change your rendering routine?
Forget about solar wax melters that don't work in winter or boiling water in improvised drums ruining your wood. Here we work with constant steam, the most efficient method to penetrate the cocoons and extract every last drop of wax, leaving the frames disinfected and ready to be tightened and re-foundationed.
What makes this model special is its all-terrain versatility. It doesn't matter if you work with Layens, Dadant, or Langstroth, or if you are transitioning between hives; its internal basket is designed to load it all.
Real working capacity per cycle: • 12 Layens frames (fits perfectly, even large ones). • 13 Dadant brood frames (Corps). • Approx. 20 Langstroth frames or Dadant supers.
Power and Flexibility: Gas burner included
This equipment comes ready to work with its gas burner included. This is fantastic because it gives you the necessary heat output ("strong fire") to generate steam quickly and maintain a high work rhythm. It is ideal if you have a lot of wax to process or if you work in a shed without a powerful electrical installation.
The design is smart: the stand is part of the melter's structure, so the burner fits perfectly underneath. Furthermore, if in the future you prefer to work with electricity (for example, in an enclosed space where you don't want an open flame), the tank allows for the connection of an external electric steam generator (sold separately). Although gas is faster, having the dual option is always a guarantee.
Technical details that make the difference:
It is made entirely of stainless steel, which ensures your wax comes out clean, without rust or impurities that lower its price or quality. The double-compartment system is simple but infallible: boiling water below, frames receiving the steam bath above. The melted and purified wax flows out through the outlet spout, while the debris (the "slumgum") stays in the basket, acting as a natural filter.
The veteran's tip: Take advantage of the heat from the frames just taken out of the melter to clean them with a hive tool and tighten the wires. Since the wood is hot and expanded, they clean up wonderfully and are as good as new for the next season.
Specs and measures: • Material: Stainless Steel (total durability against wax and water corrosion). • Working height: 780mm (comfortable to place the bucket underneath without breaking your back). • Internal basket dimensions: 530 × 380 mm. • Includes: Integrated stand and gas burner. • Optional: Inlet for steam injection (electric generator not included).
