Turn your uncapping table into a cappings melter with temperature control. Perfect for melting wax, separating honey and liquefying buckets.
Heated lid with forced ventilation and an adjustable thermostat for the 1,500 mm LYSON CLASSIC uncapping bench, in stainless steel.
At 45-55 °C wax does not melt: beeswax melts at 62-65. What this lid really does is drain, not melt. With the cappings warmed, the honey drops sharply in viscosity and separates by gravity on its own; the wax softens and stays on top. It is a good technique and a widely used one, but it should be called by its name.
01 · AT 50 °C WAX DOES NOT MELT
Beeswax melts between 62 and 65 °C. This lid's working range is 45 to 55, so the cappings never melt: they warm just enough for the honey trapped between the flakes to flow and run down into the bench.
That is exactly what you want, and it is why it works. But clean molten wax does not come out of here: what comes out is drained cappings, which still have to go through a melter or a press. The previous sheet called it a cappings melter, and it is not one.
02 · AND THE HMF DOES RISE
The previous sheet said the honey comes out of here «without its HMF rising». That is not true of any heated honey: above 40 °C the HMF always rises, and here you work at 45-55 for hours.
At that temperature and over that time the rise is moderate, and for many producers it is a fair price for recovering the cappings honey. What you need to know is that HMF accumulates: if that honey had already been liquefied, this pass adds to the previous one. The legal limit is 40 mg/kg.
03 · ONLY FOR A 1,500 CLASSIC BENCH
It is compatible exclusively with the LYSON CLASSIC line of uncapping benches, and its reference is the 1,500 mm one. It does not fit another make, nor another size.
Our range has the equivalent 1,000 mm lid at €517.36 and the 1,500 for the reinforced bench at €679.34. Measure yours before choosing: three similar lids that are not interchangeable.
04 · IT COSTS MORE THAN THE BENCH
The lid is €619.83 and the LYSON universal uncapping bench is €412.40. If you already have the bench, this is an upgrade that uses what you have and takes up no extra floor.
If you do not have it, the sum is different: for €1,156.20 our range has a «2-in-1» cappings melter that really does melt. It gives you something else and another grade of honey, but that is the comparison to make before adding bench and lid together.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
A 1,500 mm CLASSIC bench, and it drains: it does not melt.
| ✓ A GOOD FIT | You already have a 1,500 CLASSIC bench: recover the cappings honey without another metre of floor. |
| ⚠ IT DRAINS, IT DOES NOT MELT | At 45-55 °C the wax softens but never melts. Drained cappings still need a melter or a press. |
| ✕ IT DOES NOT LEAVE THE HMF UNTOUCHED | Hours at 45-55 °C raise the HMF, a little but not zero, and it adds to earlier heatings. |
