Details of Stainless steel mould for blocks of wax

Stainless-steel tray for collecting molten wax as a loaf: about 50 cm long, 16 across the top, 10 deep and 6 litres, with sloping sides so the block comes out on its own. It is the tray of the house solar wax melter and works under the spout of a steam melter.

All stainless, no galvanised parts: the wax comes out clean and the loaf unmoulds thanks to the sloping sides.

01 · WHAT FOR

Under the melter, solar or steam

The maker lists it as the tray for its unpainted solar wax melters, among them the house one: it sits inside, under the grid, and collects what drips. It also goes under the spout of a steam melter: levelled, jet centred and a margin to the rim. A 6-litre loaf is about 5.5 kg of wax.

02 · THE MATERIAL

Stainless throughout

Stainless-steel sheet in body and rivets, no zinc or paint, which is what an Italian customer asked: it does not rust, does not stain the wax and takes hot water for cleaning. The sloping sides do the unmoulding: once the loaf is fully cold it shrinks and drops out when the tray is turned over.

03 · COOLING AND UNMOULDING

Slowly, out of draughts, and completely

The outside sets before the centre: a loaf taken out warm cracks or warps. Leave it to cool under cover and out of draughts until the next day; a piece of card on top slows cooling and avoids cracks. Heat gloves: stainless steel passes heat instantly.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The tray alone is supplied; the melter comes separately.
