01 · THE STAR IS NOT A HANDLE

Push from the base, never pull the tip

The star at the top is the most fragile part of the piece and the first to snap. To demould, open the side cut wide and push the candle up from below: neither the star nor the wick is for pulling.

The side cut that makes that possible is also where the wax escapes. Before pouring, close the mould with rubber bands and check that the two faces of the cut meet squarely.

02 · NO WAX FIGURE? MEASURE THE MOULD

And that settles the wick too

The maker publishes neither the wax weight nor the wick for this figure, so we are not going to invent them. There is a direct way round it: fill the mould with water, weigh it, and that volume multiplied by 0.96 gives the grams of wax it will ask for.

The wick is chosen by the diameter of the base, which is the section that has to burn: measure the closed mould and order the matching size. If in doubt, tell us the measurement and we will tell you which one.

03 · 70-75 °C AND A SLOW POUR

On a smooth surface everything shows

Beeswax melts between 62 and 65 °C and pours comfortably at 70 to 75, below the 85 at which it darkens. Pour slowly, tapping the table: smooth design or not, the branch tips trap air just the same.

A thin coat of silicone spray before filling leaves the wall glossier and makes the cut easier to open. And demould with the piece completely cold.
