LYSON Optima-line immersion heater to decrystallise honey inside the drum: a stainless steel coil of Ø 480 mm with four 400 W elements, 1,600 W in all per LYSON, on a 101 cm mast with the control box and a thermostat dial, no display or program. It rests on the hard honey, melts the contact layer and sinks under its own weight to the bottom. 5 kg.

Heating a drum from outside is slow and punishes the honey on the wall; the coil puts the heat inside the mass and spreads it over four points, which is what avoids the burnt corner.

01 · HOW IT WORKS

It sinks on its own, top to bottom

The coil is set on the surface of the crystallised honey and plugged in: the honey in contact melts, the element sinks under its own weight and goes on melting towards the bottom while the liquid rises around it, until the drum is fluid top to bottom without stirring. Spreading 1,600 W over four elements and the whole Ø 480 perimeter is what avoids the overheated spot that sends HMF up and punishes the enzymes: the honey is decrystallised, not cooked.

02 · THE DIAL

A thermostat dial, and a thermometer in the honey

The Optima line is the no-electronics version of the digital one (2576): a thermostat dial on the control box, no display or phased program, which is fewer things to fail with dust, damp and honey. The trade-off is that the dial does not read the honey: you choose the intensity and check with a thermometer, staying under the 40 °C the house sets so as not to cook it. For those who decrystallise two or three drums a year and prefer robust to programmable.

03 · WHAT IT GOES WITH

200 and 300 kg drums, and the stand

The Ø 480 mm fit 200 and 300 kg beekeeping drums; the 101 cm mast reaches the bottom. The LYSON stand for Ø 250-480 heaters (2585) holds it on the drum rim. For a 25 kg bucket, the 45 W decrystalliser (3111); with digital control, the W3210 (2576) or the RM with digital thermostat (1128). Stainless steel, wiped with a damp cloth after each use.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The heater is supplied with its control box and cable; the rim stand (2585) and the thermometer come separately.
