LED-RHB-90 optical refractometer with a honey moisture scale and an illuminated cover, useful in a poorly lit honey room.

Check a sample’s water content before harvesting, during extraction or before packing. The LED illuminates the scale, which you read through the eyepiece. Brix and Baumé scales are also provided.

01 · READING

Use the water scale

Spread a little homogeneous honey over the prism, close the lid without bubbles and focus the eyepiece. Read the light/blue boundary on the 12–27% WATER scale. In partially crystallised honey, the liquid phase contains more water: prepare and homogenise a representative portion before measuring.

02 · TEMPERATURE

ATC within its working range

ATC operates from 10 to 30 °C. Let the sample and instrument reach the same temperature, repeat with another portion, and clean and dry the prism between readings. As a practical storage target, aim for moisture below 18%. In Spain, Royal Decree 1049/2003 sets a general maximum of 20%, or 23% for heather honey from Calluna; baker’s honey has separate limits.

03 · CALIBRATION

Oil works with a reference block

The LED-RHB-90 is factory calibrated. Its manual specifies placing the compatible calibration block on the prism with a drop of dioptric oil, then setting the boundary to 19.6% water or 78.8 °Brix. Use the block and oil together. Keep the oil away from plastic parts and the LED lid, which it can damage.

04 · BEFORE BUYING

Optical reading with auxiliary light

The LED uses a replaceable battery. Clean the prism with a soft damp cloth and store the dry refractometer in its case. Keep water away from the body and lid during cleaning. The attached manual explains use and calibration in Spanish and English.
