Details of LYSON Honey Settling Tank 280 kg Premium

200-litre settling tank — about 280 kg of honey — in stainless steel, with a reinforced sealing lid, PVC-covered handles and a stainless tap.

Two hundred litres are two hundred and eighty kilos: honey weighs 1.4 per litre. That is the first sum to do, because a full settling tank does not get moved again.

01 · WHY LET IT SETTLE

Settling is not filtering

Coming out of the extractor, honey carries air bubbles, foam and fine particles in suspension. In the tank they rise to the surface on their own and are skimmed off the top, and what is left below comes out of the tap clear and bright.

They are two different jobs and both are needed: the filter takes out the coarse material as the honey leaves the extractor; settling does the rest. Neither replaces the other.

02 · THE LID AND THE SEAL

What stops the honey taking on water

The lid has a reinforced perimeter ring that keeps it from deforming with use, a silicone gasket and metal pressure clamps that secure it in seconds.

That is not a finishing flourish: honey is hygroscopic and, left open in a damp room, it gains water. Above 18-20 % it ferments, and there is no going back from that. When a batch is going to wait weeks or months, the seal is half the product.

03 · THE OUTLET SITS LOW

Fifty millimetres will not take a bucket

The tap sits 50 mm from the base. It is worth reading twice, because it means you have to raise the tank to get a bucket underneath: blocks, a pallet or a heating base.

It is what you discover on bottling day, with the tank already full and impossible to shift. Better to have it sorted beforehand.

04 · MOVING IT

Empty it moves; full, it does not

Empty, the tank weighs 25 kg, and the ergonomic PVC-covered handles let two people carry it without the metal biting into their hands.

With 280 kg inside no handle helps: it gets filled where it is going to stay. It measures 750 mm high by 600 in diameter, so the working height needs thinking about too.

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The tap is stainless steel, but the maker's own documentation gives two different sizes for it — 2" and 1 ½" — so before buying couplings or hose, check with us which one yours carries.

✓ FITSSettling and storing in the same vessel, in batches of up to 280 kg.
✕ DOESN'T FITIf you need to move it full: 280 kg does not travel on handles.
⚠ NOT INCLUDEDThe base or blocks to raise it, nor the filter on the way in.
