MONTHS' SHELF LIFE

Powdered yeast protein at 43.41 % crude protein, for making up protein patties at the apiary.

From Alltech. Built on Saccharomyces cerevisiae, with zinc, selenium and vitamin C. 20 kg sack and 1,000 kg big bag.

01 · WHAT IS IN IT

Yeast protein, not soy flour

The main ingredient is yeast products (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and dextrose. From that comes 43.41 % crude protein, with fat 0.42 %, fibre 0.41 % and ash 5.56 %. It is single-cell protein, not soy or corn flour: it arrives with the nucleotides and prebiotics the yeast brings with it. Additives are zinc 180 mg/kg, selenium 0.1 mg/kg and vitamin C 105 mg/kg. Particle size is tuned so that intake is easy.

02 · HOW TO MAKE THE PATTY

From 25 to 40 %, the rest is your call

Build the patty with 25-40 % Bee-Polenate, icing sugar and liquid syrup in a ratio of 2/3 sucrose, 1/6 fructose and 1/6 dextrose, adding water until the texture is right. To reinforce the energy side it takes 1-3 % vegetable oil; and so the mix holds up in the hive, 1-2 g/kg of potassium sorbate as a preservative. Moving the protein percentage within that range is what lets you make a build-up patty or a maintenance one from the same sack.

03 · WHEN TO USE IT

Wintering, transport, nuclei and monocultures

The four moments are clear: preparing for wintering, so the colony builds reserves before the cold; confinement and transport, when the bees cannot forage and their intake has to be assured; nuclei and queens, where development depends on protein not running short; and monocultures, where the field gives plenty of nectar but a poor or single-species pollen.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is declared suitable for organic beekeeping, but mind the regulatory reference: Regulation (EC) 834/2007 was replaced by (EU) 2018/848, in force since 2022. If you are certified, confirm the fit with your control body before using it. Store it cool and dry, away from direct sunlight, heat sources and strong smells; shelf life is 12 months. And the usual rule: do not feed during the flow if you intend to harvest that honey for sale.

✓ FITSOutfits that make their own patties and want to set the protein percentage themselves.
⚠ IT IS NOT READY-MADEThis is raw powder: it has to be mixed with icing sugar and syrup. A finished patty is another product.
