When the smoke comes in gasps it is almost never the fuel: it is the bellows no longer holding air.
Replacement bellows for the American DADANT smoker, with a wooden frame, leather body and aluminium edge reinforcement. It measures 130 × 93 × 203 mm.
01 · WHEN TO REPLACE IT
The diagnosis is simple
A bellows dies slowly: the leather dries out, the rivets give and air escapes where it should not. You notice it at work before you see it — the ember is hard to keep and the fuel dies out halfway through an inspection. Replacing it restores the performance without throwing away the whole smoker.
02 · WHICH SMOKER IT TAKES
Standard and Jumbo, of the American one
It is the spare for the DADANT smoker made in the United States, and it fits both the Standard and the Jumbo. It goes on in a few minutes with the smoker's own screws.
Check first that your smoker belongs to that family: European ones use different frames and fixings, and this bellows will not fit them.
03 · MAKING IT LAST
Leather asks for the same as boots
Leather holds up while it stays fed. An occasional coat of grease and keeping the smoker in the shade extend its life more than anything else. And a bellows that closes properly keeps the ember alive on fewer pumps.
