Details of Replacement belt for LYSON motors (MINIMA and BASIC)

A belt costs little; a day of extraction stopped does not. It is the part you keep spare before you need it.

Original LYSON toothed belt for the motor of their MINIMA and BASIC extractors, in two sizes: 447 mm for those with the motor on top and 462 mm for the 720–900 mm BASIC, which have it underneath.

01 · WHICH SIZE?

Look at where the motor sits

If the motor sits on top, on the top bar, your belt is the 447 mm; if it sits underneath, below the drum, it is the 462 mm. And if you have the old one to hand, the code printed on its back confirms it without measuring. The Ø800 and Ø900 MINIMA use a different 24 V motor: on those, go by the code on the old belt.

02 · HOW YOU CAN TELL

The signs before it breaks

A belt does not usually snap without warning. It squeals on start-up, the flanks go shiny from slipping, fine cracks appear on the inner face and black dust shows under the motor.

When it slips, the drum never reaches speed and the honey stays in the comb. That is the symptom people mistake for “this honey is very thick”.

03 · WHEN TO CHANGE IT

Between seasons, not mid-harvest

The moment to change it is with the extractor clean and idle, not with twenty supers waiting. That is why it makes sense to keep one in the drawer: it is one of those parts you only miss on the worst possible day.
