01 · WHAT RADIAL MEANS

Both faces at once

In a radial extractor the frames stand edge-on, like the spokes of a wheel, and centrifugal force draws the honey from both faces at the same time. Nothing has to be turned over halfway through, which is what a tangential asks for.

Hence the two capacities: 20 half-frames Dadant or Langstroth set radially, or only 4 Langstroth body frames. A brood frame is too tall for the 600 mm radial set, and that is why so many fewer fit.

02 · THE MOTOR AND THE CONTROL

24 volts, adjusted by hand

The motor runs at 24 V and 80 W, fed from the 220 V mains through the MDD-01 control, which sets the speed by hand. Working at low voltage next to honey and water is a peace of mind you appreciate in a honey house.

The rule that saves combs: start slowly. A full frame taken up to speed at once breaks, and burst wax ends up in the honey. Bring the speed up gradually and finish the load at the top.

03 · THE BUILD

Light, and what that implies

The drum is 0.6 mm stainless: thin on purpose, so the whole thing stays affordable and manageable. The trade-off is that this is not a heavy machine that holds itself down — with an unbalanced load, a light extractor walks.

Before the first load it is worth setting it on a firm base and anchoring it, and spreading the frames by weight around the basket. The 3 mm polycarbonate lid lets you watch the load spin, which is how imbalance is caught before it knocks.

04 · WHO IT IS FOR

The first electric one

It is the step that leaves the hand-cranked extractor behind without moving up to honey-house machinery. Built by LYSON in Poland, with two years of warranty, and supplied flat: it fits through a door and stores small out of season.

Anyone extracting brood frames daily needs another diameter; anyone taking off shallow supers from a medium apiary has plenty here.
