01 · WHY IN ENGLISH

A sign warns the one who is not from here

The neighbour already knows there are hives. The one who does not is the hiker, the road cyclist or the tourist passing through once, and on the coast, in the hills or on a greenway a good share of that public does not read Spanish. English is the language most of those arriving from elsewhere recognise, and in a warning what counts is being understood at first glance.

02 · WHEN TO PUT UP TWO

One language for each public that passes

If people from here and from elsewhere come along your track, the sensible thing is not to choose: it is to put both up together at the same access point. The same warning exists in Spanish, in Portuguese and in French for border apiaries. It costs less than the first unpleasant visit.

03 · THE MATERIAL

Polypropylene, because it will be outdoors all year

It is not card or laminated paper: it is a plastic sheet that takes the night damp, the rain and the sun without going soft or rotting at the edge. Tie it at all its fixing points: what breaks a sign outdoors is not the water, it is the wind making it beat against the post.

The wording is in English only. And like any sign, it informs: it does not replace fencing, distance from paths or the identification your local rules require.
