01 · 55 LITRES WITHOUT REFILLING

Fewer stops means more batch

The declared autonomy is 55 litres, and on a steam melter that translates into something very concrete: longer batches without stopping to top up. Every refill costs not only the time to add water — it costs the boiler cooling down and having to be brought back up.

So the argument is not the volume itself but the continuity. With steady steam the wax flows the same from the start of the batch to the end, without the temperature peaks and troughs that leave badly melted wax at the bottom.

02 · SIX BAR IS NOT A GARDEN HOSE

The hose is part of the equipment, not an accessory

The relief valve is set at 6 bar, and that tells you what pressure the circuit can reach. With that figure on the table, hose and clamps stop being a detail: it takes reinforced hose rated for steam and high temperature and proper clamps.

Ordinary rubber on a steam line does not hold, and when it lets go it does so with the circuit hot and under pressure. It is the warning the maker himself repeats, and it is worth reading twice.

03 · 3/4” OUTLET WITH A BARB

Standard, and therefore adaptable

The steam take-off is 3/4” with a barb, a common size that links to most melters and installations. It is not the calibre of the workshop's honey line — that runs in 1½” — but steam is a separate circuit and the two do not mix.

The body carries upper and lower cones and measures 400 mm across. The stainless is AISI 304 at 1.5 mm, with legs so it stands steady on the honey house floor.

04 · THE SHORTER THE BETTER

Every metre of hose is steam lost

The performance of a steam circuit is lost along the way: every metre of hose and every elbow condenses a share before it reaches the melter. Shortening the run is the cheapest improvement there is on this installation.

With that and a well-lagged hose you gain pace without touching anything else — and it shows most on old dark combs and slumgum, which is where steam really has to work.
