From empty jar to case without anyone picking it up

Empty jars are loaded onto the infeed turntable, where the DANA api MATIC 3000 fills them to within ± 1 g, in doses from 25 g to 1.5 kg. A conveyor takes them into the tower, which picks each lid from the sorter and screws it down; they then pass through the labeller and gather on the collecting table. Nobody has to handle a jar between infeed and outfeed, so one or two people run the line: one keeps it supplied with empties and the other packs the full ones.

02 · CAPPING

The compact tower tightens every lid to the same torque

The capping tower puts lid placing and screwing into a single stainless steel unit. On its touch screen you set the jar size, the lid size and the tightening torque, and every format is saved: the next run of 250 g jars starts by selecting its programme, with no adjusting by eye. It handles screw and twist-off lids, metal or plastic, from Ø 42 to 90 mm and 9 to 22 mm tall, which is what its lid sorter takes. The tower runs on compressed air at 6–8 bar and the labeller at 4–6 bar. The compressor is not included; as a reference for the line, Swienty suggests one of about 2 hp with a 50 l receiver, 220–240 l/min and 8 bar maximum.

03 · THROUGHPUT

1,000 jars an hour: do the maths with your harvest

At full speed the line packs about 8,000 jars in an eight-hour day. Do the maths before you buy: if your whole year's jarring fits into ten days, the line will stand idle most of the time, and you are better off starting with a filling station on a turntable. The line is modular and can be built up in stages: the filling machine and its turntable first, then capping and labelling when volume calls for them.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The line is set up around your containers: it includes the tower guides for one jar and lid format, and each extra format needs its own set (reference 110808I, including testing and programming of the format). The published price is for the line with a side label and a seal label over the lid. With a single label it costs less; a third label (the labeller takes up to three per jar) and the batch and date printer are quoted separately. From our catalogue, lids from TO43 to TO82 fit, with TO89 at the edge. The order is finalised with samples of your jars and lids, and the jar is measured at the widest part of the body, not at the neck.

It is built to order, in 12 to 15 weeks from the deposit, and before shipping you can book a factory acceptance test (FAT) with your jars, quoted separately. Installation is also quoted separately, depending on the destination: a factory technician comes to your premises, with travel and accommodation included, and gives the training in English. Two days are usually enough if, when they arrive, the compressed air, a 230 V, 13 A socket for the tower (which powers the rest of the line), hot water for cleaning, jars, lids, labels and honey for testing, and basic tools are ready. Afterwards you get two hours of phone or video support. With the seal-label labeller, the one in the published price, the line ships on six pallets, about 1,075 kg in all; with a single label, on four and 910 kg. The largest measure 200 × 120 × 215 cm (the tower) and 270 × 130 × 170 cm (the labeller with seal label), so check the door of your honey house and plan for a forklift.

⚠ PRECAUTIONS

Fill honey runny, but warm rather than hot. As standard the filling machine handles product up to 40 °C, and that is also the ceiling for honey: above it HMF rises, and HMF is a legal parameter. The hot-fill kit protects the machine when the product goes in hot; it is no reason to heat the honey further.
