Details of Honey Pump Monolobi® 60

DN40 means 40 millimetres of bore inside. The 49 is the outside diameter, and the hose you need is 40 internal.

Monolobi 60 lobe pump in 316L stainless steel, reversible and with variable speed, for transferring honey, glucose and syrups. 0.75 kW motor with single-phase inverter.

01 · DN40 IS 40 MM INSIDE

The question we get most

The ports are DN40 - 40/49, that is 1½ inches. The first figure is the internal bore and the second the outside of the fitting.

So what to order is 40 mm internal hose. A 50 will not seat and a 32 throttles the flow — and this is not a pump to throttle.

02 · IT HAS TO BE PRIMED

And why

A lobe pump works by drawing a vacuum, and there is a clearance between the rotor and the scraper. Dry, that clearance lets air through and it never picks up: hence you prime it by hand the first time, filling it with product.

For the same reason, check that no air gets in at the joints. A loose seal on the suction side is the number one cause of a pump that turns and lifts nothing.

03 · NEVER RUN IT DRY

The rule that decides its working life

It must run continuously and with product in it. Without liquid to cool them, the mechanical seals heat up, and that is where a pump of this kind fails.

In practice: watch the level in the source vessel and stop before it runs out, not after. That is what most affects how many years it lasts.

04 · FROM 140 TO 700 LITRES

What the speed control gives

It moves 0.038 litres per turn and runs between 60 and 330 rpm. Doing the sum, that runs from about 140 litres an hour at the bottom to about 700 at the top, always depending on viscosity.

Low speed is not a fallback mode: it is the one you want with thick honey or when you do not want to introduce air. Being a positive-displacement pump, it moves the product by pushing it, not by beating it.

05 · REVERSIBLE

Emptying the hose

Reverse the motor and the flow reverses: either port serves as inlet or outlet.

The practical use is the usual one: at the end, return the honey left in the hose to the tank instead of losing it or draining it into a bucket.
