Details of Fine Nylon strainer

Conical nylon straining cloth of 300 microns with a 33 cm metal ring, for the finishing strain before settling or bottling.

It is the fine mesh of the chain, not the first one. It works behind a coarse strainer, and it washes and gets reused season after season.

01 · FILTRATION

What 300 microns holds back, and what it does not

It holds back what you can see: bits of capping, wax flakes, plant debris and the odd bee. It is a presentation strain, not a purification: the honey keeps its pollen and its character.

Strain with the honey fluid and warm: cold, the cloth clogs, the flow stops and you end up forcing the fabric at the seam. If it comes straight off the extractor, run it through a coarser mesh first.

02 · SUPPORT

No hook: think first about where it will rest

The filter is the cone and its ring, with no eyelet or hanging cord. On a narrow pail the ring rests on the rim, but the tip ends up touching the honey already strained and the flow stops. The answer is a legged stand that holds it clear; the catalogue has them for this diameter.

03 · CLEANING

Reusable, if you wash it hot and in time

It is not disposable. Rinse it in really hot water the moment you finish, while the wax is still running: once it sets inside the weave it does not come out and the mesh stays half blind. Drain it and store it dry, without bending the ring.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The ring is 33 cm: measure the mouth of your pail or tank before ordering. For wider mouths the catalogue has larger filters.
