01 · MORE OUTPUT FOR LESS MONEY

The whole ladder, so you see it entire

Per euro and kilo-hour the range runs like this: the 50 kg/h press works out at €41.24 for each kg/h of capacity, the 100 at €39.66, this 200 at €33.80 and the 350 at €16.04. Buying throughput gets cheaper the higher you go.

We are not saying the 350 is the better machine — different makers, and you have to read both sheets — but that with this budget in hand, not looking at it would be odd.

02 · COLD, AND THAT IS THE PRODUCT

It is what separates a press from a melter

The machine carries no heating element: the cappings go in at the top, an auger presses them against a perforated cylinder and the honey leaves through the perforations onto the sieve below. It never goes above the temperature it came in at.

Compare that with what sits lower down: a «2-in-1» cappings melter costs €1,156.20 and separates the honey by melting the wax, at 62-65 °C. Well above the 40 at which HMF starts to rise. That honey has outlets, but it is not the same honey and not the same price.

03 · FIVE REVOLUTIONS A MINUTE

And that slowness is a design decision

The auger turns at a maximum of 5 rpm. At that speed the honey leaves by pressure rather than agitation, so no air is whipped in and no foam forms on the sieve: two things that later cost hours of settling.

The wax leaves dehydrated at the far end, continuously, and already ready for the melter. That cuts a great deal of the wet cappings volume you would otherwise have to store, which is the other problem of the harvest.

04 · SINGLE-PHASE, AND A 5/4 OUTLET

Two installation figures worth checking

It is 2.2 kW at 230 V and 50 Hz: single-phase. Where the big extractor and the mixer call for three-phase, this one plugs into an ordinary socket, and in a rented unit that decides more than it seems.

The honey outlet is a 5/4 ball valve, written in quarters of an inch: five quarters is an inch and a quarter, 32 mm. That is a modest bore for 200 kg/h, so expect the honey to come out in a stream rather than a gush.

05 · IT IS A WAREHOUSE MACHINE

And it is measured on the floor, not on the order

It takes 135 × 75 × 92 cm and runs on wheels, so it moves around the honey house without dismantling anything. Acid-resistant stainless steel, with smooth surfaces to clean at the end of the day.

And like every cappings machine, it is used the same day: wet cappings piled up ferment, and what goes in stale no longer gives the honey it would have given.
