Instrumental insemination of queen bees is a key tool for genetic control in modern beekeeping. Far from being restricted to laboratories, this technique is now within reach for any beekeeper wishing to preserve selected lines, propagate desirable traits like gentleness or disease resistance, or simply ensure targeted matings without relying on unpredictable mating flights.

Unlike natural mating, where the queen mates randomly with drones during flight, instrumental insemination allows you to introduce semen from chosen males based on origin, temperament, or performance. It offers complete control over the genetic lineage of your colonies.

Success depends as much on preparation and cleanliness (including use of dedicated cleaning powder) as it does on the tool itself.
